CIEE's new office at 308 Congress Street was Balance Architects' first office design since the start of the pandemic and challenged our team to come up with a design responsive to a shifting work culture where a physical office space is one of many places for employees to work.

To that end there are no private offices, but rather a mix of small huddle rooms and larger conference rooms. All desks are hotel seating style, and there are two lounge areas with soft seating separated by a felt divider.

The freight elevator for the entire floor opens into the space, which we turned into a design opportunity, creating a nook for taking calls and informal meetings that happens to have 180-degree views of the Boston skyline and harbor.
